Thoughts VIII: The Lightning of Thunder
By Sailor Onyx Pluto
The lightning streaked across the sky as the thunder rumbled through the dark clouds with a resounding boom that shook my apartment's windows while the rain continued to come down in sheets and the wind howled almost mournfully. If I looked hard enough, I could see a few people on the street below running for cover as if it would do any good now. When the few streetwalkers found their temporary sanctuaries from the elements, I turned my gaze once more to the black clouds that seemed to rumble and shake with the fury of Zeus himself. I smiled at that thought since Zeus was the Greek name for the Roman god Jupiter, and sometimes these volatile storms remind me of my time spent on that once-glorious planet. Of course, these weather patterns could hardly hold a candle to what Jupiter could conjure up. Those storms could produce thunderclaps so fierce that it felt like that whole planet shook with Jupiter's rage at times.
It was during those times when I would find myself in the warmth and safety of Nephrite and it makes me wonder is I'll ever see him again. I turn away from the window as a few tears fall from my eyes in memory of my first and now lost love, but I quickly brush them away as another lightning flash and thunder crash from the dark sky brings me back from the past, if only for a moment. However, the moment lasts as long as a lightning flash and I suddenly find my mind as chaotic and unpredictable as the powerful elements outside my window.
I look down to the street again and see no movement, not even a car or bus. It's almost as if the rain has washed all life from the world, even if only for a few hours. I smile, as the thought is somewhat humorous since with the way this world is at times, it could use a cleansing from the rain. Sometimes, I wonder why we fight so hard to protect this planet from the evil forces that constantly threaten to take it over. As many face of corruption and darkness come from the stars, there are just as many, if not more, festering on this planet itself, just waiting to be released.
Another lightning flash as the thought brings about my memories of Beryl and Metalia. Beryl used to be a human living on Earth until her jealousy for my princess and prince's love took over her heart and mind, with the help of Metalia of course. A long, loud rumble of thunder and Nephrite's face once again resurfaces in my thoughts. Our life together would've been absolutely beautiful had not the storm of the Dark Kingdom shattered it into the shards of a long lost broken dream.
I feel a solitary tear slip from my eye as the storm appears to be receding after releasing its pent-up fury and the sun's rays begin to shine through the lightening clouds. The dark clouds seem to vanish completely as I see a rainbow's colors materialize in the light of the sun and the now-clear blue sky, and I walk to the window once more. I feel a genuine smile spread across my lips as I see, only for a moment, Nephrite's face in the sky looking down at me with love and devotion and I am reminded why I truly help to defend this planet that I now call home: Despite all the darkness and evil in and around it, there is still beauty and love that is more powerful than anything I have ever seen and as a Senshi, it my duty to protect it with my life, and I look forward to the day when I can finally see Nephrite again.
