Among Us Still

If there were any characters in this bit I would say they belong to Tolkien or what have you, but as there aren't and I'm not knowingly located in ME or anywheres like that, I dono what to say.

I noticed him during my lesson – he was sitting quietly across the room from me. For some strange reason I was drawn to his plaintive appearance.
He wore a dark green turtle-neck sweater, with the neck unrolled and sticking up around his rather long face, and underneath wore a grey long-sleeved shirt with holes in the cuffs that he had stuck the thumbs of his long, leathery hands through.
His eyes, surrounded by dark lashes, were a pale brown, contrasting with his dark but femininely well shaped eyebrows.
His long nose flowed out of his high brow, and his longish red-black hair fell across his line of vision and he randomly shook his head to clear the limp hair out of his sight.
When the class was over he stood up to his full and nearly imposing height, and stretched quite like a cat, holding back a yawn. I noticed a strange red object on his wrist – the tag from a cat collar!

I watched him with interest and followed him out of the classroom, down the crowded hallways, and down into the tunnel where clubs and businesses had little pavilions set up along the walls and strange music mingled with the sounds of people talking and laughing, video games in the arcade, and the constant hum of the elevators and people walking.
After awhile, the crowds thickened and he was out of my line of sight.
I found an empty chair and stood up, hoping to catch another glimpse of this strange and vaguely fair stranger. I strained to see him and it wasn't after a few minutes and several glares from other students I saw him one last time.

He looked strait at me and smiled; and it hit me – his eyes glimmered and shone with intelligence and the plainness that I had seen before made way to unearthly beauty.
I stood stunned, even after he had turned and walked off into the bustling crowds never to be seen by me again.

It wasn't until I sat down to write this descriptive piece that I remembered something that I had noticed but hadn't really understood the implications of what I had seen... it was his long and pointy ears.
