Prologue
Everything was blurry. My head felt like it had been baked in an oven fifteen times over. I slowly tried to lift my head up, but a burning pain shot through it and I had to let it fall back on the pillow that was supporting it. I closed my eyes for a few seconds then opened them. The pain in my head subsided. My vision cleared. I looked around. I was in a pod… it seemed to be a couch with a glass top.
I started banging on the glass top, shouting, anything. Someone in a lab coat rushed over to the machine I was in and quickly opened the glass top.
"Subject Ei- I mean, Kenneth. How do you feel?" said the person in the lab coat.
"Wh-where am I? Who am I?" I asked him.
"Err… you seem to be suffering minor amnesia…"
"What's going on? Agh!" I yelled.
Everything turned blue. The walls, ceiling, floor, everything was a shade of turquoise. The man in the coat had disappeared. On the floor, there was a trail of a darker shade of blue. Then there was a flash of light, and a crowd of people appeared in front of me. They weren't people, though. They were echoes of people. Their skin was transparent with white lines running across it.
Then everything turned normal again.
"Kenneth! Kenneth!" yelled the man.
"Huh?" I muttered.
"Now, for some answers. You are a part of the Assassins. We fight against the Abstergo, who are the modern-day Templars. Both of our organizations are trying to make the world a better place – but Abstergo wants to do that by taking over the world. More people join our cause everyday… but we needed some way to train them. So we invented the Animus. An invention that lets you relive the lives of your ancestors. This is the Animus 2.0. Abstergo made the first one, and this is the second, fully-functioning Animus – that we know of."
"I see…"
This was all a little hard to take in. So… why couldn't I remember anything? And why did he nnot tell me the basic information, like my age or… my name would help. I figured this wasn't the best time to ask more questions, because the scientist seemed to be pretty eager to strap me into this Animus.
"So when do I get to use this… Animus… thing?" I asked.
"Right now."
