Lee Adama pinned the picture of Kara on the wall, next to Kat's. Two kick ass pilots, dead at their own choice. He didn't understand. He guessed he never would.

"Let me go" Her words still echoed in his mind. "I'll see you on the other side."

"Kara, why'd you do it?" Lee sighed quietly to her picture. The ache in his heart getting worse with each passing moment, guilt rose in his body like a flood. He should have never let her back in her cockpit. He should have never tried to stop loving her. He should have told her how he felt.

I knew…

The words came out of nowhere. Life seemed emptier with each passing moment. Dee smothered smiles behind her hand when she met his dead eyes. Now she was competing against a ghost. The ghost always won. And even she couldn't hide.

He couldn't fly without thinking about her, he couldn't run, or play triad.

"I'm so sorry Kara." Lee walked away from the picture.

Half-life, that's what he had now, there's no Apollo without Starbuck.

And no Lee without Kara, for that's what they were, everything.

Friends, lovers, partners, wing-mates, soul mates… Lee scoffed at his own feelings.

The overwhelming emptiness stung at his soul. If he still had one, perhaps Kara had taken that down in her viper too.

He had never even told her how beautiful she was. Not once. He should have told her how much he loved her, told her the truth about his marriage. It was a lie, an insult to marriages everywhere. He should have been with her, Gods and fate be damned.

Lee sat down on his bed and pulled out his gun. He took off everything except his tanks and boxers. He tossed the gun casually from one hand to the other.

What's an empty life worth? A life without love? A life without Kara?

He fingered the trigger, looking to his picture of Kara, the one he stole from her locker…the one with Zak.

No!

Yes…Lee thought to himself, caressing the gun gently…to end the torture and the pain and the stress of losing Kara; of defending Baltar… Emptiness awaited him, to match his soul.

Out in the hallway, a single shot was heard… Footsteps rushed to the hatch…

Lee walked through the halls, pulling off his flightsuit. He stepped into the bunkroom and began shoving it into his locker. Lee touched his head, he pulled out rations and his knife.

He began to cut his algae bar into smaller pieces, his knife slipped.

And nothing, he slid the knife through his hand again…nothing happened, no blood, no pain.

Two green teary eyes met his own, sitting on her bunk, like he's seen her a thousand times.

"Kara?" Lee

"Yeah." Kara moved towards Lee, tears flowing down her face freely.

"Am I…are we dead?"

"Shh…" Kara's finger went to his lips

"But-"

"We don't have to think like that anymore."

And she leant in and kissed him; and then Lee realized as he pulled Kara closer that she was right. This was it.

I don't actually believe Kara is dead, however I really wanted to write this story.
