Outside Looking In

Originally an entry for a fanfic day on a Harry Potter facebook group. This is Luna-centric and features a bit of goodDraco in it. Along with minor Hogwarts bashing, bullying, PTSD, and mild swearing.

Luna sighed as she walked down the hall of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A fifth year Ravenclaw boy shoved her to the ground saying, "Out of my way Looney!" Draco Malfoy heir of Houuse Malfoy saw what had transpired shocked. The only other person to notice was Harry Potter. Both boys were very surprised. A few hours later they saw Luna leaning against a wall her hair matted and tears streaming down her face.

When her father Xenophilius Lovegood found out about the bullying he was livid. The next evening, it was announced that Luna was leaving Hogwarts. One Ravenclaw yelled, "It's about bloody time! We don't need a raving lunatic ruining the reputation ofour house!" A second year girl asked once the student sat down, "I know this has been passed around to every house and read by nearly everyone, teachers included. But, who does this journal belong to?"

The girl had held up a blue hard back book with bronze crescent moons on the spine and a silver star on the front cover. Lua horrified, stood up and said, "It's mine. I've been keeping it since I witnessed my mother's murder at six years old. I can't believe you guys all read it. I trusted everyone to return it. Not read it like it was a popular tabloid!"

Harry asked, "Luna, some of the kids in Gryffindoor were curious. What were those poems in it?": Luna sighed, "They aren't poems. They're song lyrics." Luna took a deep breath before singing.

You don't know how it feels

To be outside the crowd

You don't know how it feels

To be left out

And you don't know what it's like

To be your own best friend

On the outside looking in

Everyone was shocked to hear her sing she was so good. Her father showedup not long after. Luna shyly asked, "Who were the only ones that didn't read my journal and why?" Draco and Harry both stood up along with Neville. All three boys' answers were the same, "No one should have theri secrets forcibly revealed and we're all ashamed someone's privacy was invaded like that." Luna smiled and hugged all three boys.

Six months later, Harry recieved a letter from Luna.

Dear Harry,

Greetings from Japan. Dad and Touma my new therapist both agree that I should send this letter. I have made several hew friends and I am dating a wonderful boy by the name of Taiki Kudo. Dad and I along with Taiki are coming to London during winter break for a visit. Hope to see you, Draco, and Neville soon.

Love,

Luna

Harry smiled as he passed the letter to Neville to read. Draco coming over to look at it as well. But it took a whole schoolreading a private journal to see the outside looking in.
