Word Throw Down challenge from MSPercival: The challenge must use the words 'facetiae', 'footle' and 'flinty'.
Only Martin
"I kid you not!" Louisa said earnestly. "Martin actually said, and I quote, 'I will not footle away my time looking at that facetiae. It's rubbish!"
"I suppose that would depend on the rubbish in question. Some facetiae is considered to be priceless art." Ruth replied thoughtfully.
Louisa shot her a flinty glare. "We weren't exactly at the museum, Ruth. We were standing by the pornographic section of the newsagent, waiting for the train."
"Oh, well in that case I wouldn't footle away my time with that either. However, some vintage erotica is quite amazing."
"We're talking pornographic literature, Ruth."
"I am quite aware what facetaie is. However, I am getting the distinct impression that that isn't exactly what you found so astonishing."
Louisa nodded, smiling in self deprecation. "Yes, you are right about that. I just don't know of anyone else who would actually use the words 'footle' and 'facetiae' in this day and age, much less in the same sentence. They are rather arcane, don't you think? Where does he come up with this?"
"Arcane, maybe..." Ruth sighed. "Then again, we've lost much of the English language that used to be spoken not more than a hundred years ago. Sad, really. It has a way of livening conversations up."
"I suppose you're right there." Louisa said sounding wistful. Then she glanced at her watch. "I must get going! Time to pick up James Henry. It's been a pleasure 'footling' the time away with you over coffee, Ruth."
"Likewise, dear." Ruth said, smiling. "We'll do it again soon, I'm sure."
