Tribal Wedding
The Chief of the Water Tribe always officiated royal weddings.
When Unalaq heard news that his niece, Avatar Korra was engaged to Councilman Tarrlok, he was pleased with the news.
The Councilman was from the North as well as him. He was the youngest chairman on the United Republic Council and he was their representative. Tarrlok was a few years younger than him and Tonraq, so the Chief knew of him since childhood. They went to primary school and played together with his brother Noatak.
Times were different now, and the rest of the world would see their age gap as questionable, but the couple did seem to make each other happy. Age gaps like theirs were common in the Water Tribe. Unalaq's grandparents and great-grandparents had age gaps as long as theirs.
Tarrlok was an accomplished man, and he was in politics, just like the Chief. He'd make a fine husband for his niece, and would take the utmost great care of her. Tarrlok would help Korra focus on her Avatar duties at hand and make her see the bigger picture.
Unalaq had heard stories of his future nephew-in-law's true origins that his father was the ruthless bloodbending crimelord, Yakone. It was a great scandal indeed, and to add insult to injury, the revolutionary Equalist, Amon was actually Noatak, Tarrlok's brother. It was a good thing that Noatak was alive after all these years. Unalaq couldn't imagine loosing Tonraq himself, but now Republic City blamed the Northern Water Tribe for giving them such a ruthless terrorist.
Tarrlok had proven himself a changed man ever since the events in Republic City. One thing that he knew about his niece, she was a caring, loyal person, and when she fights for her friends, she fights for her friends. She stood by Tarrlok, no matter how many words were said behind his back. If that wasn't a test of true love, Unalaq didn't knew what else that was.
Everyone else in the family seemed to be welcoming Tarrlok during their engagement, including his own children, Eska and Desna. He seemed to genuinely care about her, and not just for her Avatar status. She was also part of the Water Tribe Chieftain family, though he doubt Tarrlok was actually social climbing. Her Avatar status would outdo any royal title in the family.
As long as Tarrlok proved that he was a good man again and treated his niece well, that was more than enough for him. He knew plenty of good punishments as Chief if he ever stepped out of line with the law, or with Korra. The twins gave him a fine warning if anything bad happened to her because of him. Then again, Korra always knew how to protect herself.
"By the power invested in me, the Spirit of the Ocean, and the Spirit of the Moon, may Yue be with you in times of joy and sorrow and always bring you two back together stronger than ever."
The blushing bride and groom stood before him at the Spirit Oasis as Tui and La swam in the pond.
"I now pronounce you man and wife, you may kiss the bride."
