Greetings, here is a DOGS fanfic that I began writing and had completed at a very late hour last night. I love this manga series, and these two characters (both pairing-wise and not). I'll be honest with you all - I've read every single DOGS fic that there is out there and all of them were amazing and had managed to inspire me to write again. It was just a matter of time until I figured out what to write about. I hope you like it.
There is Beauty in Ugly Places
She found that her feet could no longer budge. No matter what she did, they were firmly glued to the earth below her, immobile.
He was moving briskly ahead of her, and she struggled, for fear of being unable to catch up.
Naoto could not move, could not speak, and could not breathe.
Moments before, she had been gasping for air but now her breath was hitched in her throat.
Her katana loosely dangled from her graceful fingers; as if it were a teddy bear plush hanging by its paw for dear life rather than an enormous weapon that could slice through skin in a matter of seconds.
Entire body tingling, a single jolt could send the sword falling to the ground.
Yet she stood as still as a cat, eyes wide and sparkling in awe, heart perturbed by the sight taking place in front of her.
The wind momentarily tore through their disheveled hair and tattered clothes - hers and his.
This week after week, battle after battle agenda was rather exhausting on both of their parts.
Everything around them reeked of death.
Someone's or something's blood was pooling by their feet.
They were destroyed, physically and mentally.
And yet everything around them was glowing.
The semicircle that made up the sun was illuminated in front of them, and cast a certain light down the blood and dirt stained street. The sky was a beautiful disaster indeed – a startling explosion of pinks, oranges, and purples had spread across the horizon. Everything was on fire due to that enormous blazing orb. Naoto swore that if she reached out her hand, she would be able to touch it.
Her life was cold, colorless, and unfeeling, but this light (oh, it exhilarated her from the tips of her toes to the top of her head), it made her feel so warm.
Haine suddenly halts in his step, perhaps admiring the spectacle in front of him, or perhaps expecting her to tag along beside him. She could not know for sure.
"C'mon" He says, an unreadable expression gracing his features as he turns back to face her.
Looking up at the sky, she had failed to notice the way he shone, his body silhouetted against the light, pale hair taking the tones of the radiant sunset that evening. It brought strange shivers to her heart.
His body was dark, bloodstained, and had cast an eerie long shadow, yet was rimmed in light.
Naoto glanced down at her feet with a lingering smile on her face, and inhaled deeply.
The air tasted of dust and debris but she did not mind at all.
Only after she had caught up alongside Haine did she realize that she could finally breathe again.
