Daniel knocked on Sam's door. She had gone to her quarters early the previous night, she'd complained of a headache and fatigue. Jack had headed down to his quarters a few minutes later.
He received no reply and gently pushed the door open. The darkened room was in chaos; the bed was overturned, the mattress leaning at a strange angle. He could see a sheet poking out from underneath it and realised that Sam's journals had been shredded and tossed around. The drawers were empty and one of her shoes was wet and had tooth marks on the edges. He yelled for an SF and started to search through the carnage for Sam.
As he neared the mattress, he heard movement. He looked underneath it and saw the pillows, blankets and sheet had been piled on the floor. Suddenly, a face approached from the darkness.
Jack growled softly at him, crouched on all fours with his head lowered into his shoulders.
"Jack, what the hell?"
Jack's response was to bark. Behind him something stirred, Daniel backed off before Sam appeared beside Jack mirroring his pose and growling.
"Sam?"
Jack snarled and barred his teeth at Daniel. He stepped in front of Sam as if to claim her.
"Easy now, Jack, it's me, Daniel."
Jack snapped his jaws at Daniel and lurched forwards with his mouth wide open. Daniel backed off and kept his hands low.
"She's all yours Jack." He turned to the S.F, "I think we better call General Hammond and Dr Fraiser."
He jumped as something warm touched his hand. He looked down to find Sam pushing her nose into his palm. She was holding a paper bag in her mouth and dropped it at his feet.
She looked eagerly at the bag and back up at him, pawing the floor with her hands. When he didn't move to take it, she nudged it forwards with her nose, and took a step back before looking up at him again.
He slowly picked it up and opened it. He instantly recognised the 'tea' they had been presented with on their last mission. He sighed, would they never learn before consuming alien foodstuffs? He turned to the SF. "Get a message to General Hammond, make sure no one else touches the tea we brought back from P39-TR2."
A strange whine made him look back down. Disturbingly the whine had come from Jack, Sam was nuzzling him and rubbing her head against his neck and face. She licked him slowly up his cheek before snuggling back into him. Jack nuzzled her back and started to climb over her. She shirked him off and stalked back into the room. Jack sniffed her bottom and tried to climb onto her again. Sam turned and licked his face once more before slinking into their den. Jack turned to Daniel, stared at him, barked happily and followed Sam.
Janet and General Hammond hurried down the corridor. He didn't think he'd ever been so pleased to see them in his life.
"Dr Jackson what's the emergency." Hammond asked.
Daniel pointed into the room and held up the bag of tea.
"It happened again Sir."
"What are the symptoms this time?"
A series of excited high-pitched barks sounded from under the mattress. Hammond sighed and shook his head and Janet closed her eyes briefly.
Sam shrieked loudly from inside the den.
"I think we should be grateful they've forgotten they've got opposable thumbs." Daniel quipped.
Janet sighed loudly.
"I'll get started on the blood tests."
