Beckendorf was working late in the forge again. In the months before the war, most of his siblings went to bed at eleven. Beckendorf had pulled a couple of all-nighters before this. Luckily the forge was soundproofed due to the complaints of the other campers. The children of Hephaestus were working harder than ever on new spy cameras that were almost as small as a ladybug, daggers disguised as hair pins, and Greek Fire flamethrowers.

He stopped hammering for a second to rest his hand. When he felt a tap on his shoulder, he thought it was his arm still vibrating from the hammer. He was about to raise the hammer again when-

"Charlie?" There was only one person who called him that. He turned around and dropped the hammer on his toe when he saw Silena standing behind him with a tray of food.

"OW!" he yelped.

Silena gasped and covered her mouth. "Omigosh! Charlie, are you okay? I'm so, so, so sorry!"

Beckendorf grimaced, but tried to pass it off as a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just got startled. What are you doing here, Silena? I mean, not that I don't want you here or anything, but this place is kind of dangerous and you probably shouldn't still be up but-" He stopped himself, blushing. He had a tendency to talk a lot when Silena was around.

Silena smiled and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. Beckendorf tried hard not to stare or say something stupid, like "Do you have a boyfriend?".

"Well, I didn't see you at dinner. I figured you were probably in here still and I brought you some. It's almost one because I had to approve of my cabin's outfits for tomorrow, but I'd hoped you might still want it. Charlie?"

She snapped her fingers in front of him and Beckendorf realized that he was the only other one in the room, which must've meant that she was talking to him. "Umm, yeah. I mean, no. You have really pretty eyes. What was the question?" He mentally slapped himself.

Silena laughed, but he could see her blush. "Take care of yourself, Charlie." She stood on her toes and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek then nearly ran out of the forge.

Beckendorf put a hand to his cheek. "Definitely dreaming."
