Early Rose, Late Doctor

"Hello," a complete stranger said to me. What made it worse was that he smiled.

"Hi," I replied uncertainly. I hope this isn't some weirdo. That is the last thing I needed. I was almost late for work. I checked my watch. Only two minutes till I am late! Won't this bus move faster?

"Are you late for something?" the stranger asked leaning over to look at my watch.

"What was your first clue?" I snapped.

"Well, I mean . . ., you were," he stuttered until he noticed the look on my face. "Ah, I see. Sarcasm."

"Yeah."

"Tell you what, I'll do you a favor."

What a nut. What sort of favor could he do me? I didn't even know him. Yet he acted like he knew me, and I knew him. Then he pulled a small, long , cylindrical, metal object from his pocket.

"What is that, mate?" I asked hesitantly.

"A sonic screwdriver," he answered, pointing it at my watch. It whirred. Then my watch reset itself to 7:30. Shocked, I stared at it. Then I grabbed my phone and checked the time. It was 7:30! And then I noticed everyone checking their mobiles.

"Your welcome," said the man, stowing the "sonic screw driver" in his pocket again.

I still don't know what happened that day, or who he was. But I wasn't late.
