Last Night I Dreamt (That Somebody Loved Me)

By wiseoneinhel AKA RhiannonAmaris

Avatar belongs to Nick, the lyrics belong to The Smiths. I own nothing here. If I did do you think 'Crossroads of Destiny' would have turned out like it did? This is a mid season one fic.

Last night I dreamt
That somebody loved me
No hope -- but no harm
Just another false alarm

He sat in the bowels of the ship, eyes closed, trying to think of nothing but his breath and the flames before him. To forget the girl and his false memories of her. He'd dreamt again last night. He'd had reoccurring dreams for years, reliving certain memories, but this was new. This had never happened, would never happen. He'd dreamt of peace and warmth, of blue eyes looking adoringly into his, and of smooth soft skin against his own. His name falling from her lips as a sigh.

Last night I felt
Real arms around me
No hope -- no harm
Just another false alarm

He swore viciously. Wasn't it bad enough that she invaded his sleep, taunting him... No, that wasn't true. It wasn't as if she had flaunted herself, or anything of the sort. It wasn't as if he hadn't had dreams along these lines before her. He wasn't that unusual for his age. This was different though. This wasn't sensation tramposed with the half imagined, half remembered face of a random pretty girl. There was more to these than that. It wasn't just that he dreamt of being with her, but that he dreamt of loving her, of being loved by her. He'd been home.

So tell me how long
Before the last one?
And tell me how long
Before the right one?

And he had woke, alone, with the most meager scraps of false hope and the knowledge that exactly one person in the world cared if he drew another breath. He knew that even if he captured the Avatar there was he quite likely wouldn't be allowed back. That even if he was he'd be tolerated, nothing more. He'd make them accept him though. And with that thought he stood and forced ridiculous thoughts of a girl who despised him and he knew next to nothing of (beautiful, fiercely loyal, courageous, perfect) out of his head.

He had work to do.

I KNOW
But it goes on
