The Girl Who Had Nothing to Lose

(a Marauder's Era/ ATLA crossover)

Disclaimer: I own nothing, sadly. I wish I did though...that would be pretty darn nice, eh?

And the Hogwarts express leaves today, doesn't it? Ah...how time flies...

Prologue

She did not want to be here. She had absolutely no desire to be here at all. She wanted to be back home. She wanted to return to the warmth of her Family's cottage—her sanctuary. She wanted to be back in her old bedroom—back to the small fireplace in the corner, the small shelves crammed with books, the cozy sheets that rested on top of her bed. She longed to feel her parent's embrace—the softness of her mother's hair against her check—the twinkling of her father's eyes when he smiled at her. She missed the taste of her mother's special peanut butter cookies and her father's seaweed noodles that she knew he was so proud of. She even missed her sister's constant whining and complaining—those heated arguments the two used to have, back in the day.

But that was ancient history. She had not seen her sister in years—ever since the latter had married that foul, arrogant prick named Vernon. But none of that mattered anymore. Oh, what she wouldn't give just to hear her sister's nasally voice giving her ridiculous orders. She would do anything just to hear her mother's lullabies, the sound of her father's laugh. In short, she wanted her old life back—the life she had before…she didn't want to think about it—to dwell on it any further. She couldn't bring herself to ponder over it too much, for fear of being consumed by sadness—by guilt—guilt because it was all her fault that it ever happened in the first place.

No matter what anybody told her—no matter what comforting words were spoken—she knew it was her fall—entirely her fault. (And she also knew that her dear, well-tempered sister would readily agree with her on that.) If she wasn't at the market but back at home at the time, it would never have happened—she would have been able to protect them. If she hadn't run out of bread that morning, she would never have had to go to the market in the first place. All of this happened because of her. It was all her fault. It was nobody's fault, but hers, all hers. Her parents would not have been murdered if she was not the Avatar.

Author's note:

This is a pretty short one I wrote a while ago...I thought Harry Potter and Avatar with a dash of Sky High would make a pretty decent fanfic, so I gave it a shot. It's just a prologue, so I'm not quite sure what I want to do with it, but I have a vague idea, so hopefully this whole updating thing works this time around...

But I hope you've enjoyed it, for those of you who stuck through all three paragraphs. Thank you very much for reading, and I'd greatly appreciate it if you reviewed!

Thanks again! :)
