The firefly, Serenity, flashed another morse code message to her friend, Wandering Vagabond. He didn't seem to notice, so, in a huff, she flew closely around his face.
The Firefly Class Transport Ship Serenity hummed softly to it's mechanic, worlds away. The girl smiled, standing up from admist engine grease. She had finally finished repairs.
Serenity flew out to explore, bored as she was. She stumbled onto an old ruined building, and a screen activated as she flew by.
Serenity brought up an old record to a crew membber through the ships computer. An old voice recording she had stored, back from her previous captain. Unlike Mal, he stole data. This was his treasure, an old transmission from Earth-That-Was.
"Our planet, slowly used up by resources," Said the man. "Began to deteriorate even more after a monstrous meteor storm began, with a cause still unknown. We were left with a dry desert world, unable to be terraformed. So we left." The camera turned to show rockets blasting off.
Serenity flew back to WV and his two friends, The one who tried to shoot them all and the pretty white one. They were eating food and Serenity ate some, completely forgetting the message.
Serenity listened to River and Kaylee as they played around in the cargo hold. She de-focused and returned to her mechanical, unthinking life.
Worlds away, a thief on (planet where they all meet up) steals a computing device and opens a free account on the latest chat site. They befriend another kid, working on a spaceship, and one who lives in the heart of the core. Later, they befriend a kid who lives near the rim, survivor of the reaver attack(with the safe and all) and the four play a stolen game: SCore.
Paradox space whirls on. Thousands play, die, win. Monstrosities appear and disappear. Dream bubbles float, stars are formed and destroyed.
And for the first time in a year, River Tam can finally block out all the thoughts of everyone who ever has been and ever will be.
"-since I found Serenity," She sings out loud accidentaly. She tries to remember the rest of the song but can't.
Serenity flies contentedly through the heart of the meteor on which she and WV now live.
All is well.
