I Breath in, I Breath out

Disclaimer - I (unfortunately) don't own anything to do with Roswell, except for some videotapes and a keychain, so don't sue me. I also don't own the song (it's by Chris Cagle).

Michael jammed his hands in his pockets as he walked away from Maria. The windows on the cars exploded as he walked past, a testament to the anger and hurt he felt.

"How could she do that," he fumed, oblivious to the chaos surrounding him. "How could she break up with me. I stayed on earth for her, and she throws it away like nothing?"

Lately I've been runnin' into our old friends
And somewhere in the small talk someone always asked where you've been
So I tell them what you told me and they can't believe we're through
They ask me what I'm doin' now, and in case you're wonderin' too.

As the weeks passed slowly, everyone could see how miserable Michael was, even Maria. But she stubbornly refused to make up with him. Max quit asking Michael to do anything, because all he'd get is a grunt and a shake of the head.

Michael finally gave up trying to get Maria back, and just watched her from a distance, his heart breaking every time he saw her.

I've got every reason to find someone new
Cause you swore up and down to me that I've seen the last of you
But the way you loved me, Girl, it left me hopin' and holdin' on
So until this world stops turning round, and my heart believes you're gone.

Michael knocked on Maria's door, anxious to get out of town quickly.

"I've come to say goodbye." Michael took a breath and gathered his courage. "I've always known you were the girl for me, ever since I kidnapped you and drug you to Texas. I love you, but I have to leave." With that, Michael got on his bike and left without looking back.

I breathe in, and breathe out,
Put one foot in front of the other
Take one day at a time, 'til you find
I'm that someone you can't live without
Until then, I breathe in, and breathe out.

The wind whipped over Michael's face, quickly drying the tears that were falling. He pulled to the side of the road and reached into his pocket, pulling out the tarot card Madame Vivian had given him. "Believe in the love," she had said. Michael flipped the card into the dust and started up the motor, just as a cavalcade of black cars passed him.

We were meant to be, Girl, there's no doubt
And if it takes the rest of my life for you to figure it out.

They were safe for now. Max tried to convince Kyle to stay in Roswell, but he wouldn't hear of it. Isabel had convinced Jesse to leave her. Michael stood there, looking at Maria, wondering about her decision. She smiled at him, walking over to his side, and put her arms around him.

I breathe in, and breathe out,
Put one foot in front of the other
Take one day at a time, 'til you find
I'm that someone you can't live without
Until then, I breathe in, and breathe out.
