It was a relief when Hange, Connie, and Pixis left the room. Levi wondered if Erwin expected him to leave, as well—though it wouldn't matter. Levi wasn't going anywhere.

He still couldn't believe what Hange had said. But Connie's testimonial…

"Levi."

Erwin's voice pulled him from his thoughts. "What?" the captain asked. He didn't have the energy to give his word a sarcastic edge.

Erwin's eyes bored holes into him. "Stop thinking about it."

Levi managed a smirk and leaned forward with his elbows on his knees. "About what? You've got to be more specific about that, Erwin."

The commander's face was a blank slate. "We never used to play games. Don't start playing them now."

The dark-haired man sighed and nodded, sitting up straight in his chair. "Look at us," he said, gesturing between them. "We're pathetic."

"For being injured?"

Levi scowled. "Now who's playing games?"

Erwin's eyes dropped to where his right arm had been. "You can't let her words get to you."

"Take your own advice." Levi looked away from Erwin. He leaned forward again and folded his hands together and rested his chin on them, closing his eyes. "We don't even know who we're killing anymore," he uttered lowly.

Erwin said nothing.

"So what next?" Levi asked, a little desperately, his voice a little shrill. "If humans are becoming titans and titans are humans, how do we stop this? We're already mass murderers, by transitivity. Do we—" He swallowed, hard. "Do we wipe out humanity before we eat one another?"

With Levi quiet, the whole room stayed quiet. Erwin said nothing, and he didn't even move in his bed.

The captain sat back once more, the only sound in the room being the creaking of his chair.

"It's one option," Erwin finally mumbled.

"At this point, it's the only option."

Erwin shook his head, and there was a hint of a sad smile playing at his lips. "No, Levi. As long as there's one option, there are always more to be found."

Levi scowled at him again. "You always want to find the good in a situation, don't you?"

Now Erwin grinned. "It's a good thing I do, otherwise I wouldn't have such an exceptional right-hand man."

The captain groaned. "You're a decade early for making such jokes."

"Then should I avoid jokes about you having a leg to stand on, as well, for now?"

Levi shook his head exasperatedly, but even he wanted to smile a bit. Be it that Erwin should be a psychopath, a sociopath, or simply mentally deranged…his response hadn't really surprised Levi. And Levi knew he'd go along with whatever cockamamie plan the scruffy commander would invent next. After all, Levi wasn't going anywhere.

Just two of my fav charries musing about my thoughts for what's next, because everyone dying technically is a viable option… O.o… Anyway, I like their friendship (though I ship them, too), but what I really want is the real backstory for how they met. X3 That would be awesome! And only Erwin would crack such ill-timed jokes…and only with Levi… Argh, my boys. UwU *glomps them while waiting for ch52*

Thanks for reading, and please review! …and, now that I think about it, review and/or fav if you'd like a slash/yaoi version of this. I think I might be up to that! ;D
