Starry, Starry Night
Its better this way, Winry Rockbell thought. She didn't want to move. No, she did not want to disturb the quiet night. I want it to stay like this forever.
Summer nights were their favorite. The nights were warm and they could sleep under the stars. Pinako-baasan used to tell her that the Elric boys would always beg their mother to sleep over whenever the stars came out. It was an inside joke that they understood. Tricia Elric used to chide her boys for wanting to sleep with a girl at an early age. (But it was only her and they looked at her like she was their sister.)
It was the age of innocence. They were young and impressionable children. Their guardians were tolerant. After a few antics, pouts and tears, they were snuggling on the front porch already.
Winry smiled. She learned not to be afraid of the dark. They were always there to protect her. When nightmares came, they soothed her. She remembered vaguely that they'd sleep together under the starry sky. They would talk about stars, constellations and planets. They wondered if her parents stared down at them from the twinkling night sky.
She didn't want to disturb their peace. But she used her eyes to look at her favorite playmates.
Edward lay on his back with his limbs askew. His favorite red shirt had ridden up to reveal his midriff. He had the loudest snores. But she loved to snuggle next to his back because he was as warm as a heating pan. Sometimes she loved to touch and smell his golden blond hair in the mornings before the boys woke up. It made her feel safe and secure.
Alphonse was a quiet sleeper but he moved around a lot. He changed positions a lot. It was an annoying and endearing trait.
She would sometimes wake up when Al had accidentally kicked her shin or pushed her out of the way. But she loved to hug him while he slept because he cuddled her like a teddy bear.
They were her best friends. They were her lovers.
It was weird, she knew. But they didn't care. The Elric brothers taught her to not give a damn. She smiled as she reminisced.
Ever since Al gained his body back and Ed's return, they stayed in one house. The brothers had argued and fought an epic alchemic battle over her. In the end, they decided on a compromise. They were so used to sharing with each other that they didn't bother arguing anymore. It was a menage a trois that satisfied all of them.
Lucky girl, Winry thought. She rolled on to her side and rested on Ed's chest. He murmured something in his sleep. Al moved away from the pillow and curled up next to her back. She giggled and closed her eyes.
They loved her. She loved them.
It was only natural to sleep under the starry night together.
