Author's Note: This is based on the voice over that Prof. River Song makes at the end of 'Forests of the Dead'; it was just such a beautiful monologue, and so innately poetic, that I couldn't stop it spinning in my head until I had written it down! Unfortunately, my poetry is very rusty as I've really not written any for a while – both the language and form is rather basic. But it was a splurge, and I feel better for it! Do tell me what you think – I'd like to try and hone my poetry skills again, so constructive criticism is very welcome. Anyway, enjoy!!

Everyone knows that everyone dies

Everyone knows that everyone dies,

Some days are burdened with sorrow;

Some of us fall while some of us fly,

For some there can be no tomorrow.

-

We cannot predict, we cannot foresee –

Second guesses will lead you nowhere.

Life always tricks the naive and unwary,

And the days have no mercy to spare.

-

Some days are black, and some days are blue,

Some days can just seem unending

And all that we think, and all that we do,

'Gainst the relentless day-tide is un-rending.

-

And everyone knows that everyone dies –

Yet darkness would cover all worlds

If he ever accepted, and gave up on the skies,

Where the mysteries of the universe unfurl.

-

Because some special days,

Some special, blessed days,

Life is as simple as a kind word or phrase,

And when the north wind blows fair –

When there's hope in the air –

And when the Doctor comes to call –

Some days, nobody dies at all.
