Controlled Gymnast
They begged for her control.
She struggled against their binds.
She flew.
She wanted to fly, unrestrained.
Without her feet on the ground.
Her hands barely grazing the bars.
Barely holding on.
She wanted to go on like that.
Not knowing.
Always searching.
Always flying.
They warned her.
They told her her wings would break.
That she'd crash.
Or she'd get to close to the sun
and fall, melted wax.
She flew on.
Higher and higher.
She didn't stop.
She didn't want to stop.
She only wanted to fly
unrestrained.
