Pranking The Pranksters
Severus had the fourth years today. That alone was enough to give him a headache.
But then, of course, Gilderoy Lockhart just had to bug him about the Duelling Club fiasco for the entirety of lunch, and then Severus's free period on top of that, if he wasn't incensed enough.
"Are you sure that you were qualified?" He asked, with a smile that made all the female students go crazy. "I mean, what happened to Finch-Fletchley was as bad in itself, but the little incident with Mr Potter didn't help things much, did it?"
Snape ground his teeth. Of course he was qualified. And an hour of shouting at the idiotic first-years had not helped his headache. Finch-Fletchley had been taken off guard, as much as it pained him to admit it, Potter had in fact helped.
Not that anyone else saw it that way.
But he needn't be worried or concerned about that. Because he knew that the Weasley twins would have something lined up for him, and for once he was ready to retaliate.
If this worked, then the little dunderheads would never prank him again.
The lesson started off in the same vein as always. The fourth year Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs trooped in, took their seats (the Hufflepuffs at the front, the Gryffindors at the back) and began to fall asleep for the first five minutes, whilst Severus relayed the instructions to them.
When the cupboard doors banged open, Severus waved his wand to write the instructions on the chalkboard, before striding off to his desk – to 'mark work'. That was one of the only perks of this job. He could do his marking in the lessons in which there would be no fatalities if one of the students got something wrong.
All was quiet, apart from muttered curses when someone got knocked into and the stirring of cauldrons, until approximately half way into the lesson. Then, as Severus had predicted, Fred and George Weasley tried to prank him.
It seemed that they had taken to Filibuster Fireworks on this occasion, but the 'wet-start' part of the deal didn't seem to work first time off. In fact, it took them three tries to get them lit.
Severus smirked to himself. The Magic-Dampening Charm that he had procured off Filius for the occasion seemed to be working brilliantly.
Then Severus watched one of them (the little gits were identical, Snape couldn't tell them apart to save his life) wave his wand, and mutter the Exploding Curse.
What was also rather effective about the Magic-Dampening Charm was that it could also reverse spells, so the perpetrator got the full effect of the curse, charm or hex they were attempting to perform.
There was a loud bang, a huge cloud of noxious green smoke, and then Severus was standing up, striding over to the Weasley twins and taking the (sadly deflated) Fireworks off them, as the smoke cleared to reveal two blackened faces and the smell of singed hair.
"I would think it unwise to 'prank' me again, Misters Weasley." He said smoothly, smirking right at the two troublemakers. "That's fifty points from Gryffindor and detentions for the next three months."
Maybe the punishment didn't quite fit the crime, but he was eager to watch what their faces would be like when they realised that all of those detentions would be served with Gilderoy Lockhart himself.
