The silence in the empty hospital room weighs down on him like an anchor tied to his foot. Dragging him down lower into the sea of grief and mourning as he stares into his husbands painfully grey face. Fingers trailing nostalgically across hollow cheeks; robbed of their youth and beauty from sickness and a reckless mistake.

Dying's always been a possibility. A happenstance. Fate. The luck of the draw type of thing, but his partner's cards have always been riddled with an early grave. Discussions, medical procedures, plans have been conducted to prolong this very moment. They should've gone down with a fight. Fist raised, teeth clenched, and weapons out. But it felt like the end before the battle even began.

He casts a fleeting glance up into a pair of hazel eyes, when a hand settles onto his shoulder, and sighs.
