Severus took a deep breath as he headed out of the Slytherin Common Room and to the library. He was meeting Lily, and he planned to tell her his exact feelings for her. For you see, Severus Snape had watched Lily Evans grow up from the sweet (though sometimes mischievous) little 10 year-old she was before Hogwarts, to the beautiful sixteen year-old young woman she was today.

Severus knew that he had been telling himself for years that he was going to tell Lily how he felt, but something had always come up. But not today. Today, Severus was going to swallow his fears and tell Lily that he had secretly fancied her for six years.

He had just sauntered into the library when he saw her, Lily, as beautiful as ever. Her long red hair was swept out of her eyes as she poured over a book. Severus loved the way she read. Her bright, emerald eyes always seemed glued to the page she was reading; her right hand was always holding her book down, whether it be on a table or on her knee; she only moved her left hand to delicately turn a page. After that, the left hand would always be fiddling with her hair or with her quill. Severus never could get enough of it.

"Lily," he called. She looked up and smiled when she saw Severus. The sight of him always made her smile.

"Hey, Sev," Lily called back. She beckoned him to come nearer. As Severus walked nearer, he began to worry. What if he forgot what he was going to say? Or if he told her and she didn't return his true feelings? No. Severus said to himself. That's not going to happen. I'm going to tell Lily I fancy her and she's going to fancy me back.

Severus sat down in the chair next to Lily. He could smell the faint, spicy scent of lemons from the soap she used. It made the Half Blood Prince's head spin.

"Are you alright, Sev?" Lily asked, awakening him from his pervious state of intoxication.

"Yeah, I'm alright. Actually Lily, there's something I need to talk to you about." Lily closed the book she had been reading. That was another thing Severus loved about her, she always gave him her undivided attention.

"Lily I-"

"Oy, Lily!"

Severus groaned. Coming towards their table was the bloody James Potter. Like Severus, James fancied Lily, but James wasn't nearly as secretive about it as Severus was. In fact, James had been asking Lily out for years. It seemed that Lily was just about to finally say yes.

"Hey, James," Lily smiled, and though he wished he hadn't, Severus saw that Lily was blushing. James started to sneer when he saw who was sitting with Lily.

"Snape," he said curtly. Severus knew all too well that James would not make the mistake of calling him 'Snivellus' around Lily again.

"Potter," Severus said acidly.

"James could you hang on for a second?" Lily asked. James nodded and left them.

"I've got to go soon, Sev. What was it you wanted to tell me?"

"N-nothing," Severus lied. "I-I mean, I'll tell you later." Not again! He thought.

"Alright, I'll see you later Sev," and she went to find Potter.

Damn. Severus thought. You've got to tell her soon Snape! It's only a matter of time before Potter… Severus refused to think of anything that disgusting. It was alright, after all. He could always tell Lily he fancied her tomorrow. He had the rest of the year to find the perfect moment. It was just a matter of time…
