He observed, distraught, that now her eyes were like a universe! In them bounced Sirius, and Capella, and Antares, and countless others, whirling in a chaotic starstorm of silvery flecks. He was surprised those eyes didn't expand infinitely. Imagine, the heat and passion idling, the individuals crying for their long lost brethren… It was terrible, yet familiar.
And in another space or time, he came to recognize that again the stars drew closer and closer together. What was once a vast dispersion of constellations and galaxies took the form of fluid rivers, glaciers, waterfalls. Soon they would merge to become again an endless sea of calm moonlight, he thought contentedly… yet something breathed shallowly in the caverns of his mind.
What could have stirred the depths of that ocean? It troubled him greatly that he had not noticed the transition. How many years had it been since the first swell? And when her fiery cheeks were fading to ice… he was sure that he had witnessed it… yet they told him he had been sailing a distant ocean.
