The Eye of the Storm
Rose stood outside the Tardis, she shivered as the wind screamed and the thunder roared. It echoed through her body and into her soul releasing a series of tremors. The bolts of lightning that shot to the ground burnt holes as it lit the sky revealing moody black clouds that hugged the sky line. The flash ended and the town returned to darkness, Rose felt it sweep through her as she heard another rumble. Tiny droplets of rain splattered softly on her face, she knew soon it would pour but she couldn't move. She raised her head and looked into the sky. The wet droplets became faster and heavier as they hurtled towards her face, each droplet stung as it collided with her face – but she didn't care. She could barely see the faint light through the sheer mass of the rain, nor could she see the man hanging out of the door
'Rose!' he shouted
'Rose! You coming or what?' he shouted from the warmth of the Tardis. Rose nodded
'Yeah, I'm coming' she whispered. Instead she breathed deeply as the rain soaked her, it washed through her as the wind stung at her face. Soon there were hands on her arms
'Rose?' the Doctor asked urgently 'You'll catch a chill'
She shrugged
'So?'
'What are you doing?' he asked – she didn't reply.
'You have seen rain before' he joked. She turned, her eyes wide as rain dripped down her face, he brushed a wet curl off her face
'What are you doing?' he asked softly. Rose brushed his matted hair back off his forehead before stepping back. She raised her arms into the air and tilted her head back as the storm raged around her
'Can't you feel it?' she whispered. The Doctor shook his head
'Feel what?'. She breathed in the rain
'Can't you feel it leave you? All the pain, all the hurt, all the fear. Can't you feel it just wash away with the rain?' she murmured, her voice crackling with emotion and wonder. The Doctor watched her as hey eyes lit up with the lightning – all he could see was the pain and the hope that was trying so hard to prevail from beneath
'I can feel it all leave me' she whispered as her eyelids flickered
'All the pain, all the hate – all the death. It's all gone…all gone away' she whispered as her eyes closed. Her legs soon crumpled beneath her and the Doctor caught her, he held her soaking body to his. All it takes is a moment. One tiny moment of freedom to lose all the pain and the fear, one moment to destroy everything that's been haunting you.
'I'm sorry – so sorry for filling your mind with that' he croaked. Rose smiled at him and ran her finger down the rain streaks on his cheeks
'It's alright – it's all gone now'. The Doctor nodded
'You're right' he whispered as he lifted her wet body 'It's all gone'. He cradled her shaking body against his and carried her to the Tardis where she would fall into the nightmares that wrecked her innocent slumber. But he knew as morning would come she would ignore all remands of the dreams – he knew she would grasp his hand eager for a new adventure. He just hoped that she was right – that it had all dissolved with the rain, all the pain, death and fear that would follow him. He knew he would need a lot more rain to remove all the horrors that tortured his soul. Instead he squeezed her hand and pressed a kiss to her forehead
'You'll be alright, you always are' he assured her. But he could never know – never know how badly she hurt inside of her mind, and for that he would pay everyday.
