a/n: So I'm back in the realm of Fringe after a hiatus lasting about as long as the show's. I can't help it! There's just something about actually watching new Fringe that inspires me. So here's the latest piece! Lemme know what you think! Thanks!

Disclaimer: I don't own Fringe.

Speed Dial

A grin worked its way over his face as he started the car. Speed dial. That meant she only had to press two buttons to call him. Did that mean she intended to call him a lot? He could only wonder. It was his understanding that people who made it to your speed dial were usually of some sort of importance to you.

He could only hope that this was the reason he'd made it to hers.

Another, more practical, side of him argued that tonight was the very reason that he was on her speed dial. An emergency where she was unable to dial all of Broyle's digits. That brought a frown to his face and he flicked the radio on. If that was her purpose in adding him to her speed dial it had certainly worked out well tonight.

But he still liked to think that it was because she was fond of him that she'd added him to her speed dial. It wasn't so far of a stretch. They'd certainly become close over the time he'd spend in Boston. And, as he told her earlier, this was the longest he'd ever stayed in one place. And whether she knew it or not, she was the reason for that.

He knew the reason she was on his speed dial and it had nothing to do with emergencies. It had to do with hopeful feelings. He hoped that there would be a reason for him to use that speed dial for more than work situations. He wanted to be able to call her when he couldn't sleep and just talk about mindless things. He wanted to be able to call her when she was all he could think about.

He sighed and pushed his hopeful feelings aside for the moment and eased out onto the street, casting one last glance at her apartment that was now flooded with lights. She was probably trying to usher everyone out as politely as she could so that she could get some sleep. The thought pleased him. She didn't look like she'd been sleeping lately.

He pulled his eyes away and concentrated on the road, letting his thoughts roam back to the speed dial issue. He knew she had some kind of feelings for him. She had to. Otherwise she would have never let him get so close to kissing her. And God, that was his biggest regret; that he didn't kiss her when he had the chance. That he hadn't take the next available chance and done it. But then again... She'd been so distant. It hadn't seemed like it had been about their almost kiss, but what else could it have been?

Regardless, she had to have some kind of feelings for him. Even if they were just the warm and fluffy friend feelings, they were feelings. That had to count for something, he thought. Not that they were exactly the kind of feelings he wanted her to have for him... But he would take what he could get.

As he parked the car, he knew he'd come away with vital information about Olivia Dunham. She had a limited amount of people on her speed dial and he was one of them. The reason hardly mattered, he argued with himself.

For now, it was enough that he'd made it to speed dial.
