In The Stars

It was a brilliant summer's night, and the stars shined radiantly from the skies above. Kaoru Kamiya sat on the roof of the dojo, watching the stars twinkle with moderate fascination. She smiled solemnly, pulling her legs to her chest as she continued to stare.
Kaoru sighed.
"It is quite nice up here, isn't it?"
She jumped, startled. Twisting her head around, her wide blue eyes fell upon a familiar rurouni. Her nerves at ease, Kaoru flashed Kenshin Himura a welcoming smile and replied, "It really is. Would you...like to sit up here with me, Kenshin?"
He smiled that same old rurouni smile that always made her heart leap clear out of her chest. "Sure," Kenshin said, walking to where she sat and settling down next to her. He sighed a deep, breathy sigh before staring up into the sky. Just as Kaoru turned her attention back to the stars, she heard Kenshin murmur quietly, "Tonight is a most beautiful night, that it is..."
Yes, it is. Kaoru couldn't agree with him more as her smile grew deeper with affection. And absentmindedly, her hand inched over, laying gently over Kenshin's hand. Kenshin flinched upon the contact of bare skin. Glancing down to his hand, he noticed with realization that it was Kaoru's own hand that had touched his. Her skin felt warm and silky. Kenshin twined his fingers in hers while averting his eyes back to the sky. A deep, affectionate smile was beginning to form on his lips.
Kaoru blushed, all the more enjoying his tender loving fingers twining through hers. I want to spend every night with Kenshin like this forever, she thought.
At the same moment, Kenshin thought, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Kaoru...now and forever.
In unison, both Kenshin and Kaoru whispered:
"I love you..."
