Deception

He sleeps, my Angel rests

I creep across the room hand over my chest

What I'm about to do

Is so dangerous I will woo

I must see the man behind the mask

My resolve will not last

Swiftly I pull it off

Hold back a scream, freeze as he coughs

What a sight!

I run away from fright

Not thinking about the consequences

I start a disastrous series of sequences

In my flight, I failed to see

The coffee table directly in front of me

I let out a terrified cry

As I fall, failing to fly

I am doomed

Erik comes out of his room

I roll over, fail to met his eyes

Knowing that his expression would make me cry

He hasn't said a word

This is absurd!

"Erik, I'm sorry"

The words exit my mouth in a flurry

Suddenly he is behind me

"Christine, why didn't you let it be?"

His voice holds an infinite sadness

Why had I succumbed to this madness?

I tremble, begin to weep

Why had I deceived him while he was asleep?

His hands are on my shoulders

Caring, compassionate, yet heavy as boulders

I feel his tears fall

Silent, sad, but without emitted a sound at all!

"Once a woman has seen my face,

She is mine, disappears from the world without a trace."

I shudder at his words

This is becoming more absurd

"Look at me Christine

You'll find my heart is not so pristine

But filled with love

For you are my turtle dove

We were meant to be

Soon you'll see."

He tilts my head to meet his gaze

My heart leaps, my skin goes ablaze

I feel no fright

At his horrible sight

It is hard to be afraid

Of someone whose gaze is filled with love

Surely this was sent from above

He kneads my shoulders, lowers his face

Timidly gives me one single kiss
