"You think he knows?" I ask her.
Hermione shrugs, her wand conjuring dancing lights around our hidden campsite. "I'm sure he does," she says. "He's probably back home now, enjoying Christmas pudding or something."
We've avoided talking about Ron as much as we could, but as it's Christmas and we've just escaped Godric's Hollow, I needed to talk about something, anything really, to get my mind off what just happened.
The lights change color. First they were soft yellow white, now they shift from the same white to red and green and blue randomly, softly in time with the music playing on the radio.
"This blows," Hermione muttered. My eyebrows shoot to my hairline. She narrows her eyes at me. "What? I can't swear once in a while?"
"Well, you tend to avoid it."
"You and Ron swear more than I do and it tends to be enough for the three of us."
"I suppose that's fair."
We enter into heavy silence again.
Why did Ron leave? Why couldn't he have calmed down long enough for us to talk things out?
Admittedly I didn't help much that day either, with my own temper and pride getting in the way.
It is one thing when it's Ron and Hermione getting at each others throats. But why is it I can't remain calm in those situations when it's me against him?
Snow falls around us illuminating in the light.
"Happy Christmas, Harry." Hermione said, lacing her fingers through mine.
"Happy Christmas to you too, Hermione." I kiss her cheek. "And a happy Christmas to Ron, wherever he is."
"Happy Christmas, Ron."
