A moment too late

A moment earlier I could have saved her.
A moment earlier I could have saved our hearts.
A moment earlier a dream could have came true.
A moment earlier time wouldn't have stopped but kept going, as it would usually do.
A moment earlier we could have had a great life.
A moment earlier she could have been mine.

A moment later the nightmare began.
A moment later the blaming started that was never to end.
A moment later the blood seeped through her clothes.
A moment later there was nothing anyone could do.
A moment later the world was silent as we wept.
A moment later her soul whispered a soft good-bye as it left.
