A Cake in the Road

There is a cake in the road.
Edward sees it when he is driving in Seattle.
Bella is in the passenger seat, she sees the cake as well. "Edward, what's that?" She asks, peering out the windshield to look at it.
"It looks like a cake with chocolate frosting as well as pink hearts on it," Edward explains. He had seen a cake like that before, but didn't know from where.
Bella gets out of the Volvo and goes to the cake. She crouches down to look at it. It was a 2 layer cake, chocolate with chocolate frosting and pink hearts. There was something under it. A plate! She picks it up and goes back to the Volvo. Then, she sits it on Edward's lap then gets in.
Edward stares at his girlfriend in disbelief. He starts driving after Bella is buckled, still wondering where he saw a cake like that previously.
A little while later, they hear a person screaming behind them. Edward stops the car. "Stay here, love." He tells Bella. Edward gets out and goes to the person. "Hello, what seems to be the problem?" He asks.
"That cake!" The person exclaimed.
"Huh?" Edward asks, reading the person's mind.
Maybe this is a sign that Edward is dumping Bella for me, The person thinks. "That cake your girlfriend has is mine."
Edward groans, he should have known it was Jessica and the cake was obviously hers. "Jessica, why was it in the middle of the road?"
"It's cooling off, duh." Jessica replies.
Edward blinks. "Okay, whatever." Now he noticed Jessica had a knife. He gets in the car and speeds away.
"What's going on?" Bella asks.
"Crazy Jessica with a knife, that's her cake." Edward explains.
Bella's eyes widen. "Should I throw it out the window?"
Edward shakes his head and stops the car, knowing Jessica was following. He has Bella get out with the cake then he gets out. Edward motions for Bella to run.
Bella runs when she feels something pierce her back. She cries out. But, she didn't feel Edward picking her up. "Edward?" She felt like she was going to pass out.
Jessica laughs, evilly. "No! Now Edward will be all mine!" She stabs Bella until she dies.
Bella is dead.
Edward sees and runs away in his Volvo.
Jessica smiles happily and goes home.
It was too late to save Bella or was it?
