A Conspiracy All Around
It was a warm summer afternoon around 4'oclock, Everybody at the office building was getting ready to go home. I grabbed my jacket from my cubicle and started towards the exit when someone called my name. "Hey, Rodriguez!" It was Dave, a friend of mine. "What are you gonna do this weekend?" I turned to him and replied. "I'm gonna start packing my stuff." He looked at me as if he was disappointed. "So you're really going to go?" I felt kinda bad but I had already made up my mind. "Yeah. There's nothing left for me here." He had a hint of sadness in his facial expression but he kept a stern face. "I understand. If you ever need anything, I'm here man." "Thanks Dave." Dave turned around and went back to his desk to get his stuff. I put my jacket on. It was getting kinda warm for a jacket since it was summer now but I felt naked just wearing a T-Shirt. I gave my two weeks notice to the head of the department I worked in and had planned everything so that I'd be on the road by next week. I had been working at The Umbrella Corporation for Three Years as a Computer Analyst. They recruited me for my expertise but I just didn't feel right working there anymore. Too many confidential files and odd stuff going into the basement. It was my last day. A New Life Awaited me. As I walked to my car, I felt as though a great weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I started up my car and began to drive home when I remembered something. I had left my wallet in my desk drawer. I turned around and drove back to the office. I ran inside and went straight to my desk. While I was grabbing my wallet, I heard someone talking to Dave in the Cubicle next to mine. I recognized one as Dave but I couldn't tell who the other was. Dave sounded nervous. "Does he know anything?" I could hear Dave studder and then reply. "He doesn't.d.doesn't know anything..I swear." "You had better hope you're right." I could hear the other man walk away and Dave sink into a chair. I whispered to him. "Dave? Are you alright?" "Isaiah?" Dave was scared. I could tell. That's what made me nervous. I had known Dave for a long time and he didn't scare too easily. He's a big guy. Broad, 6'3, 193 Pounds. You gotta be really tough to scare someone like that. Or at least, That's what I thought. "Isaiah, You gotta get out of town now!" He sounded hysterical. "David, Who was that guy?" "Don't worry about it! Do me a favor. Get out of the city today. Better yet, the Country." I looked at him hard. He was serious. "Am I in danger? Be honest?" "I dunno, but to be safe, lay low for a while." "I don't understand. What did I do?" He looked at the ground and started to fidget, like he was hesitating. Then he spoke. " They think you know something. That you found something In the system. Confidential. They think you're leaving so sudden, because you intend to go sell information. Or Something of that sort. So it turns out that Umbrella was convinced that was trying to sabotage them. I just couldn't understand how a company that makes household products would want to harm an employee. The other thing I couldn't understand is what they thought I might know. I needed answers. And quick.
