Jacob was physically intimidating without even trying, and the inhuman attributes that accompanied him being a wolf made him both fierce and compelling, yet none of it seemed to be to come into play when he was faced with his ultimate weakness - Bella Swan. It disgruntled him and amused him at the same time that she had such an unyielding power over him, a power in which was neither seen nor heard, but only felt; it forever shackled and bound him to her. He would do anything for Bella, and he would never ask anything for himself in return.

Even when her cell phone would buzz, and Jacob knew it was Edward on the other end of the line before she'd even answer it, he never let her see how the authenticity of his smile would suddenly slip. Even when she'd hurriedly collect her clothing and give him a rushed farewell to go and meet him, Jacob never let her see how the light in his eyes would suddenly diminish. Instead Jacob would intercept his feelings with a false smile and a teasing insult about Edward. He'd kiss Bella good-bye and watch her leave the room, never letting on how much larger the hole in his chest grew every time they parted.

The only question ever on the tip of Jacob's tongue was one he'd never dare to ask, because he already knew that she wouldn't stay. And, as she'd speed away in the car with the man who kept her heart, Jacob knew all that he offered her was never enough.

Bella's happiness meant more to him than his own, and it was something he had decided long ago never to deny her.

Love just wasn't a three-way street, but he would never tell her not to come.

The End.
