Disclaimer: I don't own these characters...or do I? I got this from the 'Featured Challenges', (the links at the bottom) so I don't even own the plot...not really at least. I'm doing the meeting of Delia of Eldorne and 'Alan' of Trebond. Written from Delia's point of view.

P.S. I dedicate this to Seori (Rosie) for the last minute check ups in chat! Thanks Rosie!

A Meeting of Mice and Warriors

"Here you are My Lady"

I smiled at the young men around me and took my wine from the server with a brief thank you. The wine was dark and sweet; I sipped slowly staring at the eager eyed nobles from over my wine goblet.

The men about me chattered endlessly, speaking of their duels and victories. Something I have no interest in at all. I smiled warmly at the Prince; the boy was handsome, but of course not as handsome as my Master.

The Prince returned my smile, Fool! I laughed inwardly; the stupid man actually thought I was flirting with him! I pulled my shoulders back, bearing my breasts against the green fabric. I was rewarded with the intake of breath from my admirers. I smiled, playing into my role perfectly.

"You are fortunate your Highness." I said "So many friends to celebrate on this most joyous of days. You must be a grand man indeed."

The Prince bowed slightly to me. "And I am fortunate with your presence as well, Lady Delia of Eldorne"

Yes, how fortunate, how honored you are! For the attention, for my presence in the next few weeks, and months, and years you would learn to honor me!

"Speaking of friends where's our Alan?"

My head snapped to the youth who'd spoke. Alan, this was a name I was told to listen for.

The chestnut youth with the moustache laughed and clapped the Prince on the back. "Probably hiding somewhere in fear of meeting something beautiful. I'll find him Jon."

The youth (Garth the younger was it not?) left. I unfurled my fan with a click and lightly fanned my face. Yes, Alan or Trebond, the Prince's Squire. This was the young man my Master had asked me to keep an eye on. I flicked my head slightly causing my hair to swift gracefully at my back. What kind of man was this Alan of Trebond? Of course I had heard of him, defeating that savage knight of Tusaine. But what else had he done to make my Master worry so?

The Naxen boy returned, tugging a small redhead boy by the arm. I let my brow crease slightly; this child was the famed Squire's Squire?

"Gary you found him! Come here Alan."

The boy advanced a sullen look on his face. I felt a stab of anger. Did this boy not know whom he was about to meet! With a fluid graceful movement I presented a flawless hand to the blushing redhead. He kissed my hand; myself resisting the urge to scrub my hand in scalding water. I tapped my lips thinking. Iflattered the stupid squire with some well choosen words; I had a moment to think.

I could not believe that my Master, the greatest man in the world is frightened (not frightened...concerned) with this...MOUSE! Why the boy looked like he was not a day past twelve. And certainly he was no match for a real man. But Master did say this boy was with that half-witted prince when he survived the Black City (and how that moron managed to allude from those cursed beasts I have no idea! My Master was furious upon learning of their safe return.)

I asked the boy to dance (what an honor I had bestowed!), as the men quarreled amongst themselves I rose, remembering that my Master had said this boy would fight and die for his prince. I placed a hand, gently on the boys arm.

Well if it was a fight he wanted, he was in for one!
