I've debated posting this off and on for a long time. It's not my favorite piece, but I do like it and I think some might enjoy it as well. The scenes are short, so you'll have to read between the lines a bit. The lyrics are from Sweeney Todd, as the song is inspiration and relevant to the story.

Ah, wait-
Love, wait.

Gillyflowers, maybe, 'stead of daisies.
I don't know, though... What do you think?

"Do you think you'll ever get married?"

Rukia paused, surprised, before looking curiously at the boy beside her. "I don't know. Why do you ask?"

Ichigo shrugged. "I dunno... I just didn't know if that was something people in the Soul Society did."

The petite soul reaper looked ahead thoughtfully. "Some do. I haven't really thought about it. I suppose eventually, maybe, if I found the right person."

The orange-haired teen stayed quiet.

"What about you?" She asked, wondering why he had brought it up.

"Of course." Ichigo scowled, rolling his eyes. "Everyone does here."

"Of course." Rukia agreed quietly.

Of course...

.

Rukia thinks back to their long, into-the-night conversations, and watches the former soul reaper adjust his collar.

It's his wedding day.

She wasn't technically invited, but she figures she's never needed an invitation to burst into his life before-why start now?

It's not like anyone knows she's there. She sits innocuously on the roof of a nearby building, the same place they defeated a hollow together years (and years) earlier.

Will they ever have that kind of history together?

.

Rukia is older now, but still beautiful. She teaches, and all her students admire her. She lives alone, but always has a smile on her face.

Her peers note that she's become happier with age, more content, more patient.

Rukia behaves like a person who knows more than they let on, who knows happiness is just around the corner.

Do you think she'll ever marry? They whisper: Or do you think she's still waiting?
