"Captain?"
"Murmmph."
"Captain!"
"Nerggh."
"Captain Captain Captain Captain Captaaaaiiiinnn!"
Captain K'nuckles woke with a start. Not even three seconds awake and already he was annoyed.
"What, boy, what do ya' want?" K'nuckles yelled. He stood up, wiped the whale slobber from his back, and went over to where young Flapjack was standing. Flapjack was looking out through Bubbie's open mouth, letting light and the smell of sea water fill the usually damp and sticky room. A nice breeze slid it's way through K'nuckles ears, brightening his mood. But only a little.
"What are ya' screaming at, boy?"
"The sea captain. It's more beautiful today then it's ever been." Flapjack said this with a slight squeak. A cute little idiosyncrasy, but one that had quickly got on K'nuckles's nerves.
K'nuckles became angrier. "This is the same sea we see all the time, lad! This is the same cursed sea we've seen for three straight days!"
"Yeah, but today it's much more pretty." Flapjack smiled from ear-to-ear, something not even someone as hard-hearted as K'nuckles could see without melting down a bit. He went back over to his side of the tongue and snuggled back up into it's slimy blanket.
"You say that every morning," K'nuckles said, already slipping back into sleep.
"Kay." flapjack said. He knocked on Bubbie's teeth, who closed back her mouth.
K'nuckles was in the right to be annoyed. They had set off from Stormalong Harbor early Monday, and already it's Thursday. Flapjack slumped into a sitting position, a bit depressed.
"I never should'a gotten that stupid map," he said, with a slight kick.
He laid his head back against Bubbie's gums as he too started to fall asleep. He thought back to that Sunday morning at Stormalong, the day he first acquired the map, and slipped into slumber.
