It always feels so weird to walk up the steps to Katniss' house in the Victor's Village. She and I only met a couple of weeks ago, but she likes to confide in me about her boy problems and her fears about the Capitol. I knocked on the door in a rhythm; 2 fast, 3 slow, 1 fast, 1 slow. Katniss doesn't like to have people over and her sister likes to know if it is a friend at the door or not, so we came up with our secret knock. I heard someone rushing down the stairs, likely Prim. Katniss would never allow herself to loose her hunting walk, soundless and swift.
The door opened, and as I suspected, it was Prim that answered. I was surprised by Prim's appearance, dress rumpled, hair uncombed, dark bags under her eyes, and not long ago shed, had left stains on her cheeks. The most shocking thing about her appearance was the welt on her check and the massive bump on her head. 'Prim!' I nearly screamed, 'What happened?'
'It… it was Katniss….' Prim stuttered.
Oh my god, my friend has gone insane, I thought to myself. She has finally cracked. She would NEVER hurt Prim. Something is horribly wrong here.
'Prim, I need you to lie down.' I said as I helped her over to the couch. 'Stay here, I will go try and stop Katniss.'
I sprinted up the stairs. I hadn't been up here before, but I could tell from all of the banging, which room was Katniss'. I ran down the hall, and cautiously opened the door.
Katniss was sitting near the end of her bed. All of the sheets were balled up in the middle of the bed, her mirror was smashed and the frame was broken, her pillows had arrows sticking in them, and all of her clothes and belongings had been dumped on the floor. Katniss had been preparing to shoot another arrow into an innocent pillow when I opened the door and the creaking of the door caught her attention, and she turned towards me. She was looking at me, but right through me at the same time. She had a wild look in her eyes and I knew that she had no idea where she was, or who I was. She probably thinks that she is back in the arena, which makes me an enemy. I suddenly notice her raising her bow, pulling back the string, and taking aim – directly at my head. I slammed the door shut a second before she let the arrow fly and I dropped to the floor. When I sit up, there is an arrow protruding slightly through the door, exactly where my head would have been.
I stood up and sprinted down the stairs and out of the front door. And before I knew where I was going, or what I was doing; I found myself at Peeta's house, already knocking on the door. He opened the front door with a smile, but turned cold when he realized whom it was.
'What do you want?' he spat at me.
