walking in shadows
ginny & neville

disclaimer: I do not own harry potter.
There's something about Neville that draws Ginny to him.
At first, it's the fact that he stands in shadows, already outshone by brighter people, and Neville watches people with a hopeless glance and a stricken face. He keeps his head down, but he's not afraid of standing up to people when the right moment comes.
She can see him in the darkness, swallowed by a different kind, his own; she can see him fight it quietly and it makes her smile.
It's the way he makes her feel, and he's nothing special – he's not her boyfriend, not her idol, not even her crush – but all the same, Neville makes her feel that she's worth something, worth fighting for, worth loving.
And then Ginny hates herself for that thought because Neville isn't 'nothing special' – he listens with unending patience; he helps her, be it Quidditch or homework, though admittedly, he isn't very good at either, but it's the thought that counts; and he makes her feel like somebody.
He understands, and that's what Ginny likes about him, along with his goofy smile that hangs at the very tip of his sweet mouth.
He knows what it's like to live in someone's shadow and he knows how to shine.
And one day, with a bit of help, Neville will shine like the sun and Ginny will be shining alongside him.
