A/N: I know it's really short but the idea popped into my head after watching Probable Cause for the 3rd time :D I hope you like it :)
Disclaimer: I sadly don't own Castle :'(
Right Now
He felt this was the right moment. He had it stowed away for a couple of weeks now but after the events of the last couple of days he felt like she could use it now.
"Castle" called out Kate as she entered the loft with bags of takeaway in her hands. Martha was out of town and Alexis went back to college so they had the place to themselves.
Castle was sitting at the desk in his study with his laptop popped up on his knees. He quickly placed the small velvet purple box back into the drawer on the top right before she could notice it. "In here" he called out before moving the laptop back to the desk top.
Kate dropped the bags on the kitchen isle before joining Castle in the study.
"All charges have officially been dropped" smiled Beckett as placed a quick peck on Castle's lips before resting on the edge of the desk. "You are officially not a murder suspect."
"Thanks" smiled Rick. It was probably the first time he had smiled in about 48 hours. No one would listen to him, but he knows Tyson is still out there. But right now, in this moment, he needs to forget all that, and just focus on the woman standing in front of him. Rick still couldn't believe that even with all the evidence piling up she chose to believe and trust in him. That was something she had never done before.
"For what? You were innocent. I could never let an innocent man go to jail for a crime he didn't commit. Anyways, on the chance you did commit murder; I'd break you out of prison."
He smiled at the memory of about 2 years ago. It was the case when Nurse McClintock broke his girlfriend out of jail after she was charged for a crime that she didn't commit. Castle spoke to his mother who said true love is when you are willing to break each other out of jail.
They'd been talking in subtext for years. Even though she hadn't admitted it in so many words, he knew the way she felt about him. There love was real. Serial killer after serial killer could be thrown at them, yet they would still be left standing strong.
Without saying another word, Castle reached into his drawer and pulled out the velvet box. He nudged the small object toward Kate. Resting in the box was a silver necklace with a small pendant. Kate carefully pulled the matriculate piece of jewellery out of the box to inspect the diamond pendant. It was a chess piece. A Castle no less.
"Castleā¦" she gasped. "It's beautiful." She giggled once she realised it was a castle. Only Rick could be so egotistical but sweet at the same time. And that was why she loved him.
"I have promised always many times before, but now you'll never be without me."
Castle had noticed that she stopped wearing her mother's necklace months ago. He never got the chance to ask why. But he figured that he buy her a necklace as a replacement. Anyways he had a bigger and better surprised in store for Kate involving her mother's ring. But that day will come.
"Do you like it?"
"I love it." She turned around and silently asked him to place the necklace around her neck.
"I mean it Kate. I'll never leave you. I'll always be here."
Her thumb and forefinger ran over the small pendant before turning it over. Her eyes widened at what she saw. The back was engraved in small, almost unreadable writing. Kate's eyes squinted to read the cryptic message. Always.
Her eyes shot up to meet his. His dark brown pupils stared back at her. This was the right moment.
"I love you."
Her voice was barely a whisper but it was enough for Castle. She took his lips in her own before kissing him.
Right now, nothing else mattered.
Thoughts?
