disclaimer: I do not own tsubasa reservoir chronicle.
They are creatures of darkness, enticed to those made of light.
For her, a bespectacled fellow, tall and limber.
For him, a girl with emerald eyes and topaz hair.
Persevere as they do, the flame which they adore blaze brighter for another; always out of reach for the two who dwindle in the callous night.
Stuck in moonbeams, they flutter in vain attempts to shy away from their losing battle, losing themselves and finding each other in hazes of smoke and chinks of wine glasses. Mirroring catlike grins, they reflect each other in distorted shafts of light.
Some may say that they make a tall couple, with languid legs and spider-like fingertips, weaving a web in both light and dark humour; others may murmur that they share bittersweet qualities, like the finest silk tarnished in the slake of the their loneliness; others may gossip and declare that they are doomed, like jigsaw pieces waiting to be shattered once more.
In the tumult of such things, they would giggle and breath ash, laugh and feign inebriation, covered in shadows and midnight's own cloak, breathing down each other's neck, swept away by pretty trinkets crushed under their feet.
Every night they would ask in unison, may I grant you one last wish?
And every night they would say, no.
For what they want is something they cannot have.
