She had never left his side.

The Water Tribe Warrior was always a little unsure if she could see him, or even hear him. Countless nights were spent staring up at the sky, especially on the full moon. He'd talk to her, sometimes about troubles, or just about anything he could come up with. Though she never seemed to speak a word, he'd get up saying that he was wasting her time "ruling the skies with lunar goodness." She couldn't help but laugh.

Then he'd whisper a "Goodnight" and "I miss you." Occasionally he'd say that he loved her, and it nearly broke her heart.

So many times she wanted to reach out to him, tell him not to worry or reassure him that she was always there. Tonight was definitely no exception.

The little infant in his arms was beautiful. He held her with careful pride, trying not to drop her in his excitement. His wife had fallen asleep after a treacherous labor, and he had taken the opportunity to go out into the freezing night under the full moon.
He looked up at his lost love, and smiled. It was a smile she had never seen on him before, a smile of parenthood. He cuddled the bundle in his arms, and whispered softly in his daughter's ear.

"You see that huge light up there?" He softly traced the curves on the baby's face. Her pearl blue eyes opened wide, and stared solely at him.

"She's a remarkable woman. She protects you, me, your mother, Aunt Katara, the Water Tribe, and the entire world." He looked back at the sky, as if he were hoping the light would hear him.

"You'll hear a lot of people call her the moon spirit, but her real name is Yue. She used to be the princess of the Northern Tribe. I couldn't protect her from becoming the moon. It's ironic because...now she's protecting me as the moon. Somehow, stuff like that seems to happen to me a lot."

He took a deep breath, and heaved a goofy sigh.
"So, if you ever see daddy talking to the sky for no apparent reason...that's why."

His daughter's eyes had closed, and she proceeded to go to sleep. It was best to return the child to her mother's side before either of them woke up.

Sokka gave one last glance towards Yue, and mouthed something she almost couldn't make out.

"Thank you."

A/N: Inspired by a wonderful song on Katethegreat19's album "Erutan." You can find Kate on youtube, she does some really wonderful covers.

I have now done a story on every canon Sokka pairing. (Well, not Ty Lokka. I don't really count it. Ty Lee's just a flirt. I might do something down the road though.) I need to do some more Tokka. It's my favorite pairing. :)
