Disclaimer: I do not own anything belonging to The Phantom of the Opera, I only own my characters.
AN: This was my writing warm-up this morning. I've been thinking about writing this for a while. Please take a look at my other fanfiction The Medjai's Fate if you are interested in Mummy fanfictions at all. I am currently in the process of writing and revising that, but I am going to be writing this as well in the meantime. Enjoy!
Paris, 1874
"Christine! Christine! Regardez ici! Mademoiselle!"
Every reporter in Paris must have been crowded around the Paris Opera House that fateful night. No one could explain the sudden disappearance of the young diva from the stage during her starring paramount role of Marguerite in Gonoud's Faust. Nor could they explain the blackout's within the House nor the flashing ghostly lights...nor the hysterical, chilling laughter that tolled in every corner of every booth, all the way up to the brand new, sparkling chandelier, like the shrillest bell in Notre Dame. She had simply vanished!
Following pursuit, were the Count and Vicomte Lecuyer brothers. They had last been seen running down the grand staircase with Philippe, the youngest, taking the lead.
Out of pure fright and panic, the Opera House had been evacuated voluntarily by its audience. They had heard all too often the tales and rumors of the Paris Opera Ghost, and with the crashing chandelier during Bianca Carmella's last performance, everyone had had enough proof. By now, all of Paris knew that these strange occurrences only started to come to public eye when Christine Dubois sang at her first gala five months ago. So by default, everyone knew that the Opera Ghost must be connected to her. Her most recent disappearance provided only more proof.
It had only been four hours since she disappeared, when she and Philippe Lecuyer, whom it was rumored in there and across the Seine that she was engaged to, emerged from the empty Opera House. A crowd swarmed around them to find the frightened 16 year old opera star still in her costume from Act 3, and the Count soaked from head to toe. His brother was nowhere in sight.
"Christine! Mademoiselle!"
"Count Lecuyer!" They all cried.
Every reporter surrounded them, asking them questions, and jotting down every misheard word into everything they wanted to hear or concluded for themselves. Christine had tried to put on sweet smiles and say a few words but the Matron of the Ballet quickly ushered her into a carriage to exclude her from the rush of people. The Count only called after her longingly as she rode away in the carriage, his legs buckling beneath him.
The headlines the next day read everything from Diva Vanished: The Opera Ghost's Undying Love to Lecuyer and Opera Diva's Engagement: What Really Happened on the Night of Dubois's Disappearance. Rumors circled even years after it had happened. No one truly knew what happened that night. It was even rumored that the police investigation still held the case open, the files left untouched for ages to come. But one thing was for sure, the Opera House never had an accident caused by the Opera Ghost again.
AN: Thank you for reading! Another chapter will be coming soon! In the meantime, please follow, favorite, and review to tell me what you think!
