A one-shot that suddenly came to me while writing the third chapter of my fic "The Pain in Our Chest" and I just had to write it down! So hope you like it! R&R my loves!
On the roof of some random building, and almost an hour to dawn
"What are you doing? Why did you stop?" the Joker frowned with a pout.
The Batman remained silent and gave his back to the clown.
"Batsycake… what's wrong?" The clown asked, as he came closer to the vigilante, "Please talk to me."
The Joker was about to place a hand over the Batman's shoulder, but the latter slapped it away and growled, "Don't touch me!"
"Batsy…?" The clown whimpered; his Bats was mad at him and he hadn't a clue why.
"And for crying out loud stop calling me THAT!" The Batman snapped, and he turned to face the confused clown, "I am Batman! Not Bats, not Batsy, not Batsycake, not whatever other stupid name you have got…I am THE BATMAN!"
The Joker flinched and stared at the vigilante, not knowing what do or what to say. Yet, he knew this wasn't about how he called his beloved Batman, no; there was definitely something else, for his Bats was not that shallow.
The Batman saw the hurt in the Joker's eyes and he wasn't in the mood to apologize for what he said, but he knew he at least owed the clown the actual truth behind his sudden anger. So, he calmed himself, and then slowly spoke with his gaze focused at any direction except the Joker's.
"I'm sick of this… This endless game of yours, I've finally realized that everything that had happened… happened according to your wishes." The Batman stated grimily, "Every single detail, your escapes, our chases, my captures… were all according to your plan. Simply put, if you didn't want to be captured, then it would have never happened, I would have never been able to capture you."
The vigilante turned on his heel, to face a brick wall, and gave it an angry punch, smashing a whole right through it. He then sank down to his knees and mumbled, "I'm no more than a miserly pawn in your own sick game of chess."
The Joker stepped closer to the Batman, then knelt down, and pressed the back of the vigilante to his chest, hugging him tightly. The Batman tried to resist, but the Joker was quite persistent; the harder he resisted, the harder the Joker hugged him. Finally, he gave in to the hug.
"Bat… Batman…Look at me." The Joker urged, but the Batman refused, and so he pleaded, "Please Batman… Please look at me."
The Batman slowly faced the Joker, who instantly took his injured hand, the one he had used to punch the brick wall, and with the other the clown lifted his head so that their eyes would meet.
"Batman… My Batman." The Joker called with tender, caressing the Batman's cheek as he did so, "Don't you ever underestimate yourself like that ever again. Without you, there's no game. My whole life would be worthless. And trust me, Love, you are no pawn. You are the Knight, always has been, always will be… My Knight, the only one able to leap into my heart."
He then brought the injured hand to his thin, cherry lips and placed a long, deep, passionate kiss; a kiss that brought comfort to the heart of his beloved Bats.
"Joker… I'm sorry for snapping at you." The Batman apologized with a bit of shame.
"Oh Love, you can snap at me whenever you want. I'll always be there for you. I'm the King after all." The Joker chuckled.
"O' really? Guess it's a checkmate then!" The Batman smiled as he brought the clown into another hug, and then whispered lustfully into his ears, "My King…"
..
The End
A/N: So for those of you who don't know chess, a Knight is the only piece in chess that's allowed to leap over other pieces and a checkmate happens when the King piece is under attack. I don't really know how to play the game, but hope this clears up any confusion.
