This is just a short story that you can take from it what you will. Whatever meaning you want to gather from it is what it can be. However, I wrote it as a story of hope.
Two Doors
You wake up. The room is completely black and you are unable to see anything but the darkness around you. You feel around the ground until your hand bumps into something cylindrical on the ground. Picking it up you realize it is a flashlight. You turn it on and look around the room. There are pictures of your past hanging on the walls. Half of the pictures are of the happier times in your life. Times like when you played guitar on stage for the first time ever. Or when you met your best friend for the first time. There was even a picture from when you fell in love for the first time. However, the other half of the pictures are of the worst moments in your life. Terrible moments such as when your parents divorced. That dark point when your sister ran away from home with her boyfriend and never came back. Worst of all there is a picture of when you tried to hang yourself to escape from your miserable existence. Walking around the room you stare at these pictures of your past. Soon you reach the end of the room. There are two doors. One door looks beautiful. It is polished clean and gives off a warm feeling. The other door looks ugly, dark and rusted. Both doors have peepholes. Looking through the beautiful clean door you can see you in the future. You are a beautiful woman in the arms of your wonderful caring girlfriend. Around you are your many friends and your happy family. You are a successful school counselor, and you are respected. People enjoy your presence, and you are happy. You then look through the ugly door. You can see that you are still a male, unsuccessful and alone. There is no happy family, and there is no caring girlfriend. Your family never accepted your true self, and you were forced to continue living life as someone you are not. So you are alone, sitting in a room staring at the floor. No one is there to comfort you. Quickly you step away from the ugly door and you attempt to rip open the beautiful door. However it is locked. The ugly door creaks open slowly. You realize that there is nothing you can do but enter the ugly door, for this is your future. Sadly you enter the room and the door closes. Yet as the door closes you can see in the middle of this new room full of darkness and depression there is a shining key to the beautiful door. You realize that you still have hope. Perhaps this terrible room is not your future after all. Perhaps if you try hard enough you can open the door to the beautiful door and change your life. You realize that there is always hope and that you are not limited to what looks like your path in life. You can always try harder to achieve your goals. You can always become the you that you wish to become.
