A drabble - in which Mayor Lockwood throws a bachelorette auction and Klaus wins Caroline.
Caroline sipped champagne as she watched the bachelorette auction unfold onto the masses of Mystic Falls. She looked over and smiled at Matt, glad he had agreed to buy her. The last thing she needed was to have to go on some date with some guy in town that she didn't even know. Or Klaus.
But she hadn't seen Klaus all night, a good sign. She watched as Rebekah got up on stage and rolled her eyes. She looked trashy and desperate, waving at Matt. Matt smiled back and Caroline glared.
"Alright, let's start the bidding at $100 dollars," Mayor Lockwood said, and Caroline watched as a lot of guys bid on Rebekah.
Caroline wasn't jealous, per say, but she just hated Rebekah's attitude. She asked for another glass of champagne and almost dropped it when the bartender handed it to her, hearing the next bid.
"One thousand dollars!" Matt yelled, and the crowd cheered. Did that idiot really just bid on Rebekah? Rebekah? Not Caroline? And a thousand dollars? Matt could barely pay the mortgage on his house, how was he going to fork over that kind of money for her?
Mayor Lockwood slammed her gavel down on the podium and yelled, "Sold! To Matt Donovan. Thank you, Matt!"
Rebekah looked at Caroline and smirked, jumping off of the stage and walking over to Matt. She wrapped her arms around Matt and made sure to look at Caroline the whole time. Caroline started to walk over to her, to give the both of them a piece of her mind, when a spotlight hit her and Mayor Lockwood was calling for her to get on stage.
She sighed and chugged the rest of her champagne, plastering her most ladylike smile on her face and walking up to the stage.
Mayor Lockwood gave the rundown again for the auction rules again as Caroline smiled and waved and twirled around once. She took a deep breath and watched as Rebekah and Matt laughed and flirted. Matt had no idea the of the words he was going to have with Caroline after all of this.
Caroline sort of dazed out when random guys from her school started to bid on her, nothing as high as Rebekah's bids - which made her happy because maybe people thought Rebekah would be a cheap date.
A nerdy looking guy who worked at the town library seemed to be about to win the bidding when a voice in the back yelled, "Five thousand dollars!"
The crowd parted and Klaus walked through them, up to the front of the stage. Caroline looked shocked, and then looked at Rebekah who had an angry look on her face. Was she mad Klaus had bid on Caroline, or more mad that Caroline was about to be sold for five times more?
Mayor Lockwood clapped her hands excitedly and slammed the gavel down. "Sold, to Klaus Mikaelson for five thousand dollars! Step up and claim your prize!"
Klaus was on the stage quicker than Caroline could blink, smiling at her. "Hello, sweetheart. Didn't think I'd have to spend so much on our first official date, but it's all worth it."
Caroline was speechless for a moment, just watching as he smiled and looked at her. "Iā¦Matt was supposed to buy me."
"Yes, well, it seems my sister got the chance to compel him before your auction. But, I think you'll like what I have planned for us better." He took her hand and led her off stage, walking her away from the auction.
As they walked past Rebekah and Matt, one of which looked about ready to kill someone and the other looked dopey and confused, Caroline couldn't help herself and stuck her tongue out at the other girl, laughing as Klaus led her to a very expensive looking car.
