A drabble - in which Rebekah tries to harm Caroline after the ball because she's angry about Matt rejecting her at the Grill, and then Klaus comes to the rescue.

Caroline walked up the front steps of her front porch, noticing her mother was still not home. She'd gone for a walk after the ball, needing to clear her head after everything with Klaus and the drawing he had left for her on her bed.

She went to open the door and felt her head being thrust forward and slammed against the wood. She was quickly turned around and felt her throat being squeezed as she stared into the eyes of Rebekah.

"What the hell you psycho?" Caroline croaked, reaching her hands up to try and claw at Rebekah's grip.

Rebekah just stared at Caroline, wondering what it was that everyone found so fascinating. She was boring looking to Rebekah, and she didn't understand why everyone, including Nik now, thought she was the most wondrous thing ever. "I wonder what would happen if I just snapped your little neck right now," she said, squeezing her throat to emphasize her point.

Caroline tried harder to release the grip around her throat but she knew the other girl was stronger and she was starting to get scared that Rebekah really was going to try and kill her. She hadn't even done anything to her lately, and hadn't even been a part in her being daggered. Shouldn't she be mad at Elena?

Rebekah was about to just do it, just kill her knowing she'd come back around later and feel satisfied with that - but then she felt herself being hurdled through the air. She landed on her feet and saw Nik standing next to Caroline on the porch, glaring at Rebekah.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he hissed, his hand on Caroline's shoulder. Rebekah noticed Caroline was rubbing at her throat and rolled her eyes. "I wasn't going to really kill her, Nik. Come on."

Klaus shook his head and was in front of Rebekah in an instant. "Go! Before I steal that dagger back from mother and make sure you never wake up again."

"She doesn't love you, Nik. She's never going to love you. She belongs to Tyler."

Klaus didn't care what his sister was saying. He didn't want to hear those things. He pushed her and saw her smirk as she ran away, laughing.

He walked back over to Caroline on the porch, sighing. "Are you okay? I'm sorry. I don't understand what her problem is."

Caroline was so sick of these Originals and their mind games. She just nodded at him and reached for the door knob. She opened her door and even though she knew he had access to the house, she closed the door halfway, letting him see that she was not in the mood for any company, especially his.

"I'll be fine. Just…I want to be left alone, thank you." She closed the door and watched him as he just stood there, looking at her through the glass in the door. After a few moments, he hung his head, looking a little defeated, and then he was gone.
