Rooftop Wonderings

Ianto stared down at Cardiff from the top of the roof he was sitting on, his legs dangling over the edge swaying in the breeze. It was beautiful, all the street lights swirling together like one big dance. Ianto snuggled deeper into his thin black jacket as he felt another small wave of cold hit him. He loved roofs, especially high ones, they made him see everything in a different point of view, and he could see the stars which was always a plus you can't see them from many places in cities. He loved the stars; they reminded him of everything that was out there in the universe and that he would never really be along.

Most people thought that being on roofs was Jacks thing, but he had been doing this for as long as he could remember, one of his first memories was of him climbing through his bedroom window out on to the roof and being told off by his mother. Ianto chuckled quietly and ran a hand through his windblown brown hair, he missed his mother. Ianto turned back to observing Cardiff, feeling like a giant looking down at ants. High places just helped him think more clearly. That along with playing the guitar or singing, he busked on his days off, he enjoyed the feeling of being anonymous and a part of normal everyday life, without chasing aliens or nearly dyeing or doing things that seemed to be a normal part of Torchwood like making coffee and cleaning.

Ianto pulled off his thick gloves and reached out for his old battered guitar and started strumming the cords for 'Wherever you will go' by The Calling. The song reminded him of Jack and himself. He started crying quietly whilst playing it, he had and would always wonder if Jack would remember him when he died and who would take his place. He was after all only a blip in time for Jack. That reminded him why he was up here. Jack had died again, saving his life, he didn't ever want Jack to die for him, and he knew Jack came back. But he didn't want to run the risk that he might actually die this time. Ianto sighed and continued singing the song, wishing he could follow Jack wherever he went up high or down low like in the song. He didn't notice Jack standing behind him until he had finished the song and Jack sat down next to him and leaned over to whisper in his ear "I will always remember and love you Ianto Jones."
