"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Remus said to Minerva as they lingered over their tea at the staff table one evening.

"I don't know. What are you thinking?" she answered.

Pointing at the Gryffindor table with the spoon that he'd been using to stir his tea, Remus said, "I'm thinking that a certain young man is looking much too cheerful for someone who has a detention with both Draco Malfoy and Argus Filch later this evening."

Looking thoughtful, she concentrated on Harry for a few moments.

"Yes, he does look remarkably cheerful for someone in his position," she said, shrewdly." I wonder what kind of mischief he has planned for Mr. Malfoy this evening?"

"Surely, Minerva, you don't think Harry would cause more trouble when he's already in detention, do you?" Remus asked, trying to suppress a smile.

Shooting her friend an amused look over the rim of her teacup, the professor responded, "Surely, Remus, you don't think that anything is out of the question where Misters Potter and Malfoy are concerned?"

Chuckling slightly, the two teachers turned their attention back to Harry. He sat at his house table, looking unusually happy as he dove into his third treacle tart. They might think he was simply pleased with tonight's pudding if they both didn't know him too well.

Remus turned his attention to the Slytherin table, noting that Draco Malfoy seemed to be feeling quite chipper also. He nudged his companion and gestured toward the blond student with a nod of his head.

"Mr. Malfoy seems to be in quite a good mood as well, which is unusual in and of itself," he remarked.

Snorting slightly, Minerva glanced at Malfoy.

"He's definitely up to something too," she said, as the boys in question stood up to leave their respective tables.

As they exited the hall, Malfoy made a point of glaring at Harry, who made a point of glaring back. To a casual observer it would have looked like business as usual between Hogwarts' biggest rivals, but the two adults were watching the pair closely enough to see the way Harry struggled to maintain the glare and not break into giggles, and how Draco's eyebrows twitched slightly, as if he were communicating silently with the other boy.

Finishing the last of his tea in one swallow, Remus stood and offered his arm to Minerva.

"I do believe I feel a need to patrol the corridor near the trophy room this evening. Would you care to accompany me, Professor?" he asked with a smirk.

Daintily wiping her mouth on her napkin, Minerva stood and took his arm.

"I would be delighted, Professor. I do find that although nightly patrols are a necessary duty, one can find them quite enjoyable from time to time," she said, suppressing her own smirk.

"Oh, yes, enjoyable and quite… enlightening, wouldn't you say?" Remus asked as they walked out of the Great Hall.

"Indeed," she replied, and the two friends shared a knowing smile as they headed toward the trophy room. Both has a hunch of what they would find on their patrol this evening, and if they were right, it would be quite enlightening indeed.
