Can you believe it?
Can you feel it?
Do you recall the night we took it
for the first time.
Can you picture, once more, the screams,
the pleas,
the agony,
how hard it was.
Do you remember, perhaps,
how easy it became:
a sport.
A game, a contest, bragging.
Do you think of the child
the mother
the sibling.
What they could be now?
Do you think back and wonder?
Or do you want to do it all again
All of it; every moment
Every scream.
Or would you prefer for it
never
to have happened;
not for the blood or the glory;
for you to have been you
and not one of Them!
Do you remember before?
How it was?
When they lived and you did.
I do, I wish, I recall.
I wrote this months ago. As the summary said, it's from the POV of a regretful Death Eater. I titled it 'Death Eater Poem' on my computer. Make of it what you will.
