-Bobby's POV, after the birth of Robert Jr. and Lacey Francesca Goren-
Time seems to fly by so fast, it seemed like yesterday when I was spending time with Alex and baby Teagan and watching her walk for the first time. Now I am a dad and Teagan has a little sister and brother to play with and teach.
I never knew how fulfilling it is to be a stand-in father figure; , but being there for Teagan feels rewarding.
I remember when Alex started gushing how Teagan had learned how to crawl at five months and mastered it at six and a half months.
I remember…
-August, 2004-
I had set two bags of groceries on the ground, and was proceeding to unlock the door.
As I unlocked the door, I heard a squeal come from the other side of the door. The moment I opened the door and saw Alex playing with Teagan, I smiled.
When Alex saw me, she scooted closer to Teagan and set her in my direction and whispered, "Okay sweetie go to Uncle Bobby."
Alex watched as Teagan began a crawling frenzy. Seeing Teagan crawling towards me, I immediately set the food aside and kneeled down and opened my arms in time to catch Teagan in my arms.
With Teagan in my arms I stood up and spun her around.
"My Teagan you are getting so big!" I exclaimed when I stopped and began tickling her tummy causing her to giggle with joy.
Alex smiled at the joyous scene.
However, none will be able to compare to the one moment when I witnessed Teagan walking into Alex's open arms.
-May 2005, two months following the adoption finalization-
Shortly after the adoption was finalized, Teagan reached another milestone … walking on her own. She had our help in aiding her walk, moving around like a pro in a baby walker, watching her attempt to walk on her own and falling on her bottom multiple times (and not a crying a single time).
One particular morning, Alex was in the kitchen preparing lunch and I was in the living room with Teagan. I put her by the couch and then moved a short distance from her and began encouraging her. At first she seemed unsure but giving her toothy smile, she began walking. A few times she stopped, but then kept going with a look of determination. A little over a minute later she fell into my arms.
After letting Teagan practice a couple times, I noticed Alex was done making lunch.
So I turned Teagan around and said in an encouraging voice, "Okay Teagan, can you walk to mommy?"
Alex came a little closer opened her arms and said, "Come to momma baby girl."
Teagan began to walk. Instead of stopping she kept on going and before long I saw that she walked right into Alex's open arms.
"Good job Teag, you're such a good girl," said Alex giving Teagan kisses all over face and a raspberry on her tummy, causing her to shriek with joy.
Seeing how happy mom and baby were, I knew then that I wanted Alex and Teagan in my life.
