Hey everyone! I do not own Soul Eater.

Maka knew it was going to happen. She might have pretended to think that it was going to be okay, but deep down, she knew it wasn't. Sometimes, the best thing you should do is leave.

After Soul turned 19, he started going to pubs and drinking with Black Star. He would come home late at night, reeking of alcohol, and she would start reprimanding him on being irresponsible. Soon, it would become a full-fledged fight, in which he would stomp out of the living room into his bedroom and slam the door. She would burst into tears and then run into her bedroom. This was when doubts started to seep into her mind. When did he start to act like this? When did they start to have fights? Sure, they had fights before, but nothing this serious. Why couldn't he see that she just wanted the best for him?

Maka would wake up the next morning, go downstairs to eat breakfast, and see Soul standing there, cooking for her. He would turn around, apologize to her, and set abreakfast of bacon and eggs in front of her. Things would carry on as normal and Maka would push the doubts to the back of her mind. This was the routine.

Soul stopped apologizing though. He went into his room more often, and stopped talking to Maka, just walking right past her when she would try to talk to him. He started going out more often, leaving Maka alone at home. She would still cook for him, and listen to his excuses on why he was never there. The doubts were always in her mind now, but she pushed them away, holding onto the strand of hope that this was just a phase, things would go back to the way they used to be.

Eventually, Maka started to get sick of this routine. She was always alone now, and it was like she didn't even know Soul anymore. It was time to face reality. She knew they were losing connection. She stopped trying to talk to him, and now just went to her room and studied. What started out as a dream team was broken.

Maka had been flirting with the idea of leaving for awhile, but she couldn't quite give up on the idea on what used to be. He was her partner, but there was only so much one can take. It was time for her to move on now.

Maka packed her suitcases and went to Soul's room. As she opened the door, she noticed his room did not change that much, just a new decoration here and there. Funny, at least one thing didn't change in the midst of everything that did. Soul was on his laptop, but shut it down when she came into the room. He must have realized it was serious this time. She couldn't help but notice that his face was like that of a familiar stranger, one that she knew, but didn't know at the same time.

"I'm leaving".

Maka was proud her voice didn't waver. Maybe it was because she knew this was what she had to do. He tried to reason with her, talk to her, anything to stop her from leaving, but she just walked out of the front door.

Sometimes the best thing to do is leave, and start new somewhere else.

That was my first fanfic ever, so I hope you like it :) Review and let me know what you think of it!
